Do you have a problem with the hair on your upper lip, neck, shoulder, leg or in pubic area? then you will have to examine some of different methods for removing hair and decide which one is the best for you.
For temporary hair removal
- Depilation or removing hair to the level of the skin, lasts several hours to several days can be achieved by:
Shaving : One should shave his/her hair area carefully and gently using a proper razor or electric shaver and shaving cream. Make sure you wash and clean your hair area before and after the shave.
Depilatories (creams or "shaving powders" which chemically dissolve hair) : Those can cause lots of pain and allergic reactions. We suggest you test in on a harmless spot like your back or the inside of your elbow to check for possible allergic reactions. If your skin gets red or itchy for a long period of time (more than 3 hours) do use it. Again, wash you hair area carefully after using this method for removing hair.
- Epilation or removing the entire hair from the root, lasts several days to several weeks and may be achieved by:
Waxing : A hot or cold layer is applied and then removed with porous strips. We strongly suggest avoiding using wax for removing pubic hair. Most of the women can not stand the pain and the outcome is as good as the other removing pubic hair methods

Permanent hair removal
Permanent hair removal involves several imperfect options. A number of methods have been developed that use chemicals, energy of varying types, or a combination to target the areas that regulate hair growth. Permanently destroying these areas while sparing surrounding tissue is a difficult challenge. Methods include:
- Electrolysis : A permanent hair removal methods using electric shocks. The practitioner slides a hair-thin metal probe into each hair follicle. Proper insertion does not puncture the skin. Electricity is delivered to the follicle through the probe, which causes localized damage to the areas that generate hairs, either through the formation of caustic lye (galvanic method), overheating (thermolysis method), or both (blend method). This method is very expensive (It may cost more than a thousand dollars).
- Intense Pulsed Light : It involves the use of a specially constructed xenon flash lamp and focusing optics. The focused, broad-spectrum light is applied to the surface of the skin by way of either a hand-held wand or an articulated arm. This light travels through the skin until it strikes the hair shafts or the bulb (root) of the hair. As the light is converted to heat energy, the bulb and most of the hair shaft are instantly vaporized. The intense heat radiated by the hair also destroys the hair-producing papilla or the entire hair follicle.
- Laser : Laser hair removal is a laser beam targeted at the hair follicle. The high intensity ray of light gives off heat energy. The laser tracts along the hair shaft, heating it and leading to thermal damage to the follicle while leaving the surrounding tissue unharmed. The effectiveness of this treatment depends on the concentration of melanin in the hair.

Lasers and pulsed light target several follicles at once, so you can treat large areas of skin. While it would take years to perform electrolysis on the back or legs, a typical laser hair removal session on both legs usually takes under two hours. Lasers are great for treating the back, shoulders, arm and chest. For upper lip and chin, lasers work but only on dark hair. If you want to ensure the blonde hairs are zapped, your better bet is electrolysis for permanent hair removal in these areas.
Laser hair removal and electrolysis are considered the only permanent hair removal treatment. Although laser hair treatment is promoted as permanent by the industry, this is not strictly the case. It cannot stop the unwanted hair from re-growing. It will, however, slow the re-growth so that it can take several months or years. The re-growth will consist of thinner hair.
