The acai berry (pronounced, "aa-sigh-ee") is an inch-long reddish, purple fruit comes from species Euterpe oleracea usually called Açaí Palm growing mainly in swamps and floodplains.
Acai berry has amazing antioxidant qualities. It is very rich with Vitamin C and contains several substances called anthocyanins and flavonoids as powerful antioxidants that help defend the body against life's stressors. They also play a role in the body's cell protection system.
Studies show that acai oil may be a safe alternative to other tropical oils used in beauty products such as facial and body creams, anti-aging skin therapies, shampoos and conditioners. The acai berry also has been touted and marketed as a dietary supplement. Companies sell acaí berry products in the form of tablets, juice, smoothies, instant drink powders, and whole fruit.
